First day trials and tribulations

I am sitting in the RV listening to the rain pattering on the roof with occasional giggles and chatter thrown in by James. Everyone else is sound asleep. Yesterday, was a learning day as we crossed 3 states. We left a few hours later than we had hoped not actually hitting the road until noon.. We made a quick stop at Alpin Haus in Amsterdam, NY because we could not figure out why none of the outlets in the back were on and charging. It turned out to be a very simple fix. Turns out, we need to run the generator in the back as we are driving.

Turns out that New York state has some really cool welcome centers being developed on the interstates. We stopped at the Mohawk Valley Welcome Center where we could learn about the locks used on the Mohawk River. It had a great theme-based playground that the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

The next planned stop was the Women's Rights National Historical Park. Allison assisted the boys with the Junior Ranger activities as we were driving west and Joan was sleeping. It was a great way to keep them quiet for a little while. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived it was 5 pm and they were locking up for the night. They did let the kids get their passports stamped and awarded them their Junior Ranger pins, stickers, and stamps. Outside there is a display with the Declaration of Sentiments engraved in rock and water flowing over it. It was very impressive, but James enjoyed the water and needed a complete change in outfits by the end of that visit. This is definitely a stop to visit again, only we need to arrive much earlier.

Instead of our planned burgers cooked at the campground we had sandwiches in the RV at a rest stop. In Pennsylvania, we stopped in Erie at Steak and Shake for milkshakes, except James who wanted chicken fingers and French fries.

Around 11 pm, we finally pulled in to the campground with three sleeping kids. Three men from across the way offered to help us back in and hook up. They were very impressed with the RV and how much storage space was in it. Today, we can explore the Geneva State Park and see what lies next on our adventures.
