6 moms + 12 kids + a beach + a few hours = a great day!
Moreau State Park is only a short drive away. It is easy to visit for just a few hours. When we first arrived there was hardly anyone on the beach and friends were shouting "Hi James!" and waving. James' face lit up and he had a huge smile on his face.
One of the highlights from the day was James interacting with some of the other kids. Most of the boys were in the lake playing Marco Polo. James had never played before, but he caught on quickly. At one point he was tagged and became Marco. After a few minutes, one of the older boys, gently tossed another of the soon to be 5th grade boys near James so James would be able to tag him. All of the boys laughed and the game continued. Another of the boys, worked with James on his swimming strokes. He demonstrated freestyle, back stroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and dolphin dives. James attempted freestyle, backstroke, and breast stroke. He was thrilled when his friend, who competes in swimming, complimented him on his first breast stroke attempts.
We also enjoyed playing on the playground, doing the craft project there, and having a picnic lunch. In addition, it was a great time to relax and catch up with some moms. Short day trips are the perfect way to balance work and play on days when nothing else is scheduled. We just try to get places early and leave before they get crowded or before James reaches his limit.
