Mt. Rushmore
Yesterday morning we woke up to 39 degree temps outside. and everyone chose to stay under the covers later than normal. A lazy morning with a leisurely breakfast was just what we all needed.
When we finally got going we drove under 10 miles to Mt. Rushmore. James and Joan were both able to check one thing off of their bucket lists. George also crossed off one of the two things he said he wanted to see on this trip - a pug. His other goal the first week was a goat. Each of us learned some new facts as the kids completed their Junior Ranger Badge requirements. Did you know that the first ice cream recipe was written down by Thomas Jefferson? IN honor of that we had some ice cream. Allison and I each tried Thomas Jefferson's vanilla. As the kids were sworn in they vowed to always obey their parents, even when they don't want to, and to eat their vegetables.
We then discovered a small grocery store and were able to get almost everything we could remember from the list we had left in the RV. Joan took the kids to play and I was able to get a little work done. I think they got the better end of that deal. We then figured out how to light the oven for one of James' favorite dinners - chicken bites (popcorn chicken) and French fries. He helped Joan with cooking. James and I wrapped the evening up with some math homework and science. He climbed up in bed with Lady and the Tramp
